Passengers are facing problems due to violation of rules and chaos at Egmore railway station.

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Due to increasing incidents of violation of rules and disorder at Egmore railway station with historical tradition, passengers are facing continuous problems. The station is known as a major railway terminal for the southern districts and sees a huge footfall of passengers on a daily basis.
46 express trains depart from Egmore Railway Station daily, while 41 express trains and 80 electric trains stop here. About 1.25 lakh passengers travel daily through the 11 platforms of the station. In view of the ever increasing crowd and passenger pressure, the station is being expanded with modern technology from the year 2024, so that the facilities can be improved and the operational system can be strengthened.
However, many problems are emerging in the system at the ground level. According to the passengers, the rules are not being followed properly in and around the station premises, due to which the situation of crowd and chaos persists. Complaints are especially high regarding auto and porter services.
As per rules, only less than 50 autos are allowed inside the station premises, but the actual situation is different. More than 100 autos are parked unauthorized in front of the station on Gandhi-Irwin Road, causing frequent traffic jams. Due to this, passengers have to face a lot of difficulties in reaching the station on time and catching the train.
This problem becomes more serious during busy times. In a hurry to catch express trains, passengers have to go through chaotic queues of autos and road jams. Many times this situation causes stress and delays for passengers.
Local people say that there is a need to strengthen traffic management around the station. Also, strict adherence to the rules prescribed for auto drivers should be ensured, so that order is maintained in the station premises and passengers can get relief.
The process of expansion and modernization of the station is going on by the railway administration, but the passengers demand that till the construction work is completed, the existing system should also be strictly controlled. He says that if uncontrolled vehicles and crowd are stopped then the travel experience at the station can be much better.
