Patna: Sultanganj EO Krishna Bhushan Kumar Killed, Political Tensions Surge

Patna: The daylight killing of Krishna Bhushan Kumar, Executive Officer of the Sultanganj Municipal Council in Bhagalpur district, has sparked intense political reactions in Bihar. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, commenting on social media platform “X,” indirectly targeted Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, stating that “even Alexander the Great stood before the emperor’s mighty army. What is the status of the Tejashwi Yadav gang? This is the new Bihar, where bullets will be answered with cannons. Well done Bhagalpur Police.”
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) criticised the state government over the incident. State spokesperson Arun Kumar Yadav said the murder reflects the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar. He stated that if government officials are not safe, ordinary citizens face even greater risks. He also alleged that criminals are emboldened in the state, highlighting concerns over public safety.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary expressed deep grief over the murder and announced a financial assistance of ₹25 lakh for the family of the deceased officer. He also confirmed that Krishna Bhushan Kumar’s funeral would be conducted with full state honours. CM Samrat praised the officer’s courage, noting that he made the supreme sacrifice while performing his duties and affirmed that the government stands firmly with his family during this difficult time.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when Krishna Bhushan Kumar was shot inside the office premises of the Sultanganj Municipal Council. Chairman Raj Kumar alias Guddu was also injured in the attack and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police quickly acted following the shooting, and within hours, the main accused, Ramdhani Yadav, was killed in a police encounter. Reports indicate that Ramdhani Yadav is the husband of the Municipal Council’s vice-chairperson. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the motives behind the attack and to examine any wider criminal networks involved.
The murder has triggered a debate over law enforcement efficiency and political accountability in Bihar. Opposition leaders are pressing the government to strengthen security measures for officials and citizens, while the ruling administration has emphasised its commitment to swift action against perpetrators.
