Pension is not a favor, it is payment for past services
Durg. Durg. The Durg district branch of the Indian State Pensioners Federation organized a grand felicitation ceremony for senior pensioners who have completed their Diamond Jubilee. Five seniors who have completed 75 years of their lives were felicitated at Keshari Nandan Hanuman Mandir, Meenakshi Nagar, Durg. Retired officers and employees Gajanand Verma, Kunwar Singh Sinha, Ghanshyam Soni, Sevaram Delhiwar and Rajendra Kumar Tiwari were cordially felicitated with shawls, coconuts and flower garlands. President B.K. Verma, Secretary P.R. Sahu and Higher Education Incharge Prof. Mahesh Chandra Sharma inaugurated the program by garlanding Mahatma Gandhi’s picture and lighting a lamp. Acharya Dr. Mahesh Chandra Sharma described the importance of knowledgeable, wisdom-minded, experience-minded and elderly.
Dr. Sharma also underlined the importance of senior citizens in society. The country will always need their support and blessings. President B.K. Verma introduced the five retired officers and employees. He informed that on the petition of retired Defence Ministry officer D.S.Nakra, the then Chief Justice of Supreme Court Yashwant Vishnu Chandrachud had given the verdict on 17 December 1982 that pension is not a favour or grace based on the will of the employer. It is the payment for the past services rendered by the officers and employees. The programme was conducted by B.K.Sharma. On the occasion, a large number of members of Pensioners Association including P.N.Sahu, N.K.Deshmukh, B.R.Sahu, Jagmohan Sinha, P.S.Baghel and D.P.Delhiwar were present.
