People ignored Khadi clothes

Shimla. Khadi means hand-woven fabric, but unlike your average fabric, Khadi holds a very special place in the history of India’s freedom and independence.

Goods made of Khadi are liked all over the country. Mahatma Gandhi developed the concept of Khadi as a means of providing employment to the unemployed rural population and the Prime Minister has given the mantra of Khadi for the country, Khadi for fashion and Khadi is now seen as a fashion statement.

PM Modi has stressed on the importance of Khadi and its promotion many times in his Mann Ki Baat, but now only 30 percent people are buying the items made from Khadi in Himachal too. Himachal Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries is the only industry which produces goods made of Khadi.

In the capital Shimla, the craze for Khadi clothes was more visible than before, but due to lack of snowfall, its impact is clearly visible on Himachal Pradesh Khadi and village industries. Himachal Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Shimla official Narendra said that compared to last year, there has been a 70 to 80 percent decline in the sales of Khadi goods this year.

He said that due to lack of tourists the sales of these items have declined. Earlier too, special relaxation was given from 3rd October to 29th October 2023 to increase the sale in Khadi and Village Industries Centres, but despite this there was no benefit in the sale.

Therefore, again a special discount was given in the centers from January 1 to January 15, but despite this discount, sales could not increase. Rs.20 was given on Khadi items by Himachal Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries. After this, special discounts will be given on these items again from 15th February to 31st March.
