People in some parts of West Bengal got relief from the severe cold.

Kolkata: People reeling from the harsh cold in West Bengal got some relief on Sunday after the minimum temperature in Kolkata and other districts of South Bengal rose by four degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature rose above normal levels for this time of the year.

However, the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) in Alipore, Kolkata, said that the current phase will continue for the next 48 hours before the cold returns.

On Sunday morning, Kolkata’s minimum temperature was 15 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees above normal and about 3.5 degrees higher than the previous day.

Last week, Kolkata’s temperature dropped to 10 degrees. Since then, temperatures have remained consistently below normal.

On Saturday, the mercury in Kolkata dropped to 11.5 degrees Celsius. Then, with a sudden jump, the minimum temperature reached 15 degrees Celsius. An RMC official said, “Due to a western disturbance, the minimum temperature has increased in all districts of South Bengal today. This situation will persist for the next 48 hours. After that, the minimum temperature will drop again, increasing the cold.”

Meanwhile, a fog warning has been issued across the state.

The Met Office said that varying levels of fog will prevail in all districts of South Bengal in the morning.

Visibility may drop between 200 meters and 999 meters due to the fog.

Like Saturday, the minimum temperature in Darjeeling remained between three degrees (3.6 degrees Celsius) on Sunday.

In Sriniketan, Birbhum district, the mercury had dropped to six degrees on Saturday. On Sunday, the minimum temperature rose slightly to 10.4 degrees Celsius.

The mercury has risen slightly in many parts of South Bengal and is now above 10 degrees Celsius. The weather department said there will be no major fluctuations in night temperatures in South Bengal in the next seven days.
