People returning to Chennai after vacation: Traffic jams in suburbs

Tamil Nadu: People were returning to Chennai after the Pongal holidays, causing traffic jams on all major roads in the suburbs.
Millions of people from Chennai traveled to their hometowns for Pongal. Special buses and trains were operated for this purpose. Additionally, many people traveled from Chennai to their hometowns in their own vehicles.
After the Pongal holidays ended, millions of people returned to Chennai from their hometowns. Vehicles, including cars and vans, began arriving in Chennai on Sunday afternoon. Due to the arrival of all vehicles at the same time, traffic jams occurred at the Ulundurpet toll booth, leading to long queues.
To avoid traffic jams, the toll plaza administration opened two additional counters and dispatched vehicles. The traffic police managed the traffic jam.
A large number of people from the districts surrounding Chennai began traveling to Chennai in their own vehicles, government buses, and private buses.
This led to massive traffic jams in the Vandalur, Perungalathur, Tambaram, and Chrompet areas on the GST Road. In many places, long lines of vehicles were stretched, causing great inconvenience to drivers.
Omni bus fares increased: There have been complaints that omni buses are charging higher fares than usual, as thousands of people from cities like Chennai and Coimbatore are traveling to Chennai for Pongal.
Fares have increased by 25% to 300% (almost three times) compared to normal fares. Passengers reported that the fare has increased from ₹3,600 to ₹4,000.
