Peter Clark appointed Sydney Sixers WBBL head coach.

Sydney: The Sydney Sixers have handed the reins of their women’s team to Peter Clark. The experienced coach will now oversee the ‘Women’s Big Bash League’ (WBBL) team while continuing to serve as the head coach of the ‘NSW Breakers’ for the next two seasons.
With Matthew Mott taking over as coach of the club’s men’s ‘Big Bash League’ (BBL) team, Clark’s appointment completes the coaching reshuffle at the Sixers. He will continue his duties with New South Wales, having guided the Breakers to the ‘Women’s National Cricket League’ final during an impressive debut season.
Under Clark’s guidance, NSW dominated the regular season; they suffered only one defeat and lost a close contest to Queensland in a rain-affected championship match. His familiarity with the Sixers’ setup also played a key role in this appointment, as he had worked alongside Mott as an assistant coach during the previous season’s WBBL campaign.
The Sixers had considered having Mott oversee the programs for both the men’s and women’s teams but ultimately decided to appoint separate head coaches for each squad for the upcoming season.
Mott recently took over as coach of the Sixers’ BBL team, replacing James Hopes. Hopes, who had been selected to lead the men’s team following Greg Shipperd’s departure, stepped down to accept a joint coaching role with Queensland and the Brisbane Heat.
Beyond his recent coaching achievements, Clark possesses extensive experience in Australian cricket. Before transitioning to full-time coaching, he worked as a psychologist with the Australian women’s team for eight years. This has fostered strong relationships with several Sixers players who are also part of the NSW setup. “The Sixers are a fantastic WBBL franchise, a club with a legacy of outstanding players and team success. Most importantly, the people at the Sixers are of great character, and both players and staff are driven to perform at their best. That is what excites me the most—being part of a group of people constantly striving for excellence.
“I have been fortunate enough to build strong relationships with the Sixers’ players and staff through my previous roles in Australian cricket and my time as an assistant coach with the club last season. I look forward to further strengthening these bonds as we aim for major success as a team. I am excited about the journey ahead and the opportunity to help create an environment where we can reach our full potential,” Clark said in a statement on Thursday.
Welcoming the appointment, Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes expressed confidence in the club’s new coaching structure.
“Pete possesses a wealth of cricketing knowledge and leadership experience. He has a clear vision for the program, along with the energy and leadership qualities needed to achieve sustained success. We want to thank Matthew for his outstanding contribution to our WBBL program and wish him well in his new role as BBL Head Coach. I am confident that Pete and Matthew are the right leaders for our respective programs and will give us every chance of winning a third WBBL and fourth BBL championship,” Haynes said.
