Petrol and diesel prices hiked: Essential commodity prices likely to rise in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: The recent increase in petrol and diesel prices by more than ₹3 per liter is feared to have a direct impact on the general public and the transport sector in Tamil Nadu. The surge in international crude oil prices is being attributed to rising tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran. This global instability has also impacted India’s oil market, leading to higher fuel prices in many parts of the country.

The impact of this increase has been clearly visible in Tamil Nadu as well. Both petrol and diesel prices have risen by more than ₹3 per liter. Following this increase, the price of petrol in Chennai has risen to ₹103.98 per liter, which includes an increase of ₹3.14. Diesel prices have risen by ₹3.11 to ₹95.50 per liter. This continuous increase has put additional pressure on consumers’ budgets.

Experts believe that if this rise in crude oil prices continues for a long time, its impact will not be limited to fuel alone, but will be felt across a wide range of sectors. Rising transportation costs could lead to higher freight prices, potentially increasing the prices of essential commodities.

The transport sector in Tamil Nadu is already grappling with fluctuations in fuel prices. This new increase could further increase the cost of logistics and transportation services. This will directly impact everyday commodities, including vegetables, milk, grains, and other groceries. Market experts say that due to increased pressure on the supply chain, the prices of these commodities may also rise in the future.

Economic experts have also warned that the country’s wholesale inflation rate, which is already hovering around 8.3 percent, could further impact inflation. This is likely to increase the cost of living for the common man, especially in urban areas where transportation and consumption costs are higher.

Consumer organizations say that steadily rising fuel prices are putting pressure on household budgets and are also impacting small businesses. Small traders and transport operators may be forced to pass these increased costs directly to consumers, further pushing up commodity prices in the market.

Given the current situation, it is believed that if international crude oil prices do not stabilize, domestic price fluctuations may continue in the coming days. The government and relevant agencies are closely monitoring this situation, but ordinary people may continue to face the pressures of inflation.
