Phagwara: Woman arrested under NDPS Act

Jalandhar: Police have arrested a woman for allegedly trying to give narcotic pills to an undertrial prisoner outside a local court complex in Phagwara. A case has been registered against her under sections 22, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act, 1985. A police party was escorting several accused from Kapurthala Modern Jail to the court of Judicial Magistrate Harshbir Sandhu in Phagwara in connection with a case (FIR No. 06 dated February 5, 2021) registered at the Satnampura police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police said that while the escort vehicle was parked outside the court complex and the accused were about to disembark, a woman approached the vehicle.
Before the accused could get out, she allegedly tried to give a package wrapped in tape to an undertrial prisoner named Ravi Kumar. Alert police officers witnessed the interaction and immediately intervened. Upon questioning, the woman identified herself as Sonia, a resident of Gandwa village, under the jurisdiction of the Satnampura police station. The taped package was opened and examined in the presence of officers, revealing 410 white narcotic pills. Following the seizure, a case was registered against Sonia and Ravi Kumar. Sonia was taken into custody, while further investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband.
