Pisciculture emerges as an excellent source of income

The District Administration is launching various schemes to benefit the district’s farmers, self-help groups, and people living in remote zones by empowering them economically and providing them with more income opportunities. The Department of Fisheries is also encouraging farmers and self-help groups to take up pisciculture through departmental schemes. Moreover, the department has provided them with patta on rural pond watersheds and dragnets to empower them economically.
In this regard, the Department of Fisheries has allocated a 10 year Patta on rural pond watershed 0.500 to the Ganga Self-Help Group of Duldula development block’s village Sarhapani in 2019-20. 12 members of the group have undertaken pisciculture. The department has also provided the group with four dragnets and fish seeds at 50% subsidy. The group is producing 1500 kg of Rohu, Catla, and Mrigal Carp per year, and their sale is yielding them a yearly profit of Rs. 2 to 3 lakh. The group has been engaged in pisciculture for the last three years, and now the members of the group are enjoying a comfortable life with their families because of their appreciable income. They have expressed their gratitude to the Chhattisgarh Government and district administration.
