PM Modi and German Chancellor Merz pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Sabarmati Ashram

Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad on Monday morning and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The Sabarmati Ashram, also known as the Gandhi Ashram, was built by Mahatma Gandhi in 1917. It served as Gandhi’s home from 1917 to 1930 and was a key center of India’s freedom struggle.

After paying tribute to the Father of the Nation at the historic Ashram, the two leaders headed to the Sabarmati Riverfront to inaugurate the International Kite Festival. This will be followed by talks at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Center in Gandhinagar, where the two leaders will review the progress made in the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, which recently completed 25 years.

Officials said that in the evening, Modi will participate in delegation-level talks between the two countries at the Mahatma Mandir, following which a joint press statement will be issued.

The MEA had earlier said that Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Merz will also meet business and industry leaders and exchange views on issues of regional and global importance.
