Police caught gold and cash worth Rs 300 crore before elections, big revelation will be made soon
Hyderabad (IANS). The seizure of cash, gold, liquor and other items worth more than Rs 300 crore on Saturday reached Telangana ahead of next month’s assembly elections. This information was provided by officers. Enforcement agencies have seized cash, gold and liquor worth more than Rs 18 crore till Saturday morning. With this, the total seizure since October 9 has reached Rs 307 crore, which is being said to be a record for such a short period in the country. A total of Rs 103 crore in cash and gold was seized during the entire voting process in the 2018 elections in Telangana. Enforcement agencies had started investigating on October 9, when the model code of conduct came into force with the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission of India.
Over Rs 9.69 crore in cash was seized during a 24-hour period. The total cash seizure now stands at Rs 105.58 crore. According to data released by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, precious metals worth more than Rs 3.81 crore were seized between 9 am on October 20 and 9 am on October 21. Enforcement agencies have so far seized 220 kg of gold, 894 kg of silver, diamonds and platinum worth more than Rs 145 crore. The officials continued their crackdown on the flow of liquor. During the 24-hour period, 31,961 liters of liquor was seized, taking the cumulative seizure to 72,302 litres, worth Rs 13.58 crore. The state and central agencies also seized 232 kg of ganja, taking the total seizure to 3,672 kg, worth over Rs 15.23 crore. The officials have also seized 1.89 lakh kilograms of rice and other items worth more than Rs 26.93 crore. Elections for the 119-member state assembly will be held in a single phase on November 30.
