Police saved 44 cattle, arrested smugglers
Guwahati: In an important operation, Assam Police achieved a major breakthrough by successfully capturing and rescuing 44 cattle being illegally transported in a truck. This operation took place in Jorabat located on the outskirts of Guwahati city.
The diligent efforts of the police resulted in the arrest of two persons directly involved in illegal animal trafficking. These arrested persons have been identified as Mafizul Khan and Aminul Haq.
The cattle being smuggled from Nagaon were taken en route to Burnihat before being stopped at Jorabat due to police vigilance.
During inspection of the truck, a shocking discovery was made – 44 heads of cattle were crammed into the rear of the vehicle, revealing the inhumane conditions in which these animals were being transported.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working tirelessly to trace any other connections and individuals involved in this illegal operation, and bring them to justice.
This recent success is part of a wider crackdown on cattle-related crimes in Assam. Just last month, law enforcement officials had recovered 32 cattle stolen from three cars in Assam’s Nagaon district. In this action, a person was arrested on charges of cattle theft.
Led by sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kaliabor Rupjyoti Dutta, a dedicated police team conducted an operation against cattle theft in Kaliabor area of Nagaon. A senior Nagaon police official said, “The police team successfully recovered 32 cattle stolen from three vehicles involved in the criminal activity. Furthermore, law enforcement officials seized these three vehicles and arrested the main accused in the case. “Caught.”
These efforts underline the commitment of Assam’s law enforcement agencies to combat illegal animal trafficking and related crimes. With the recent cattle transport and successful interception in the earlier theft case, they are sending a clear message that such activities will not be spared, and animals will be protected from harm.
