Police took action against banned cough syrup, two arrested

Karimganj. Intoxicating cough syrup worth about Rs 6.5 crore has been recovered from Churaibari on the border of Tripura in Karimganj district of South Assam. The police also seized a 14-wheeler lorry used to smuggle banned cough syrup and arrested two people. The arrested people have been identified as lorry driver Ravi Sharma, resident of Ashoknagar, Madhya Pradesh, and Sushil Shuklavaidya, resident of Patharkandi (under Karimganj district of Assam).

Pranab Milli, in-charge of Churaibari police post under Bajarichhada police station, said that a 14 wheeler lorry (PB-13BD-5534) from Chikan Dana was going from Banaras in Uttar Pradesh to Tripura. Police personnel searched the lorry at the theft monitoring post. During the search, 64,320 vials of intoxicating scarf cough syrup in 402 cartoons were recovered from behind the sacks of chicken feed. He said that the black market price of the recovered cough syrup scarf would be around Rs 6.5 crore.
