Police’s suspicious role in Dalit woman rape-murder case came to the fore

Jaipur (IANS) | The suspicious role of the police has come to the fore in the case of gang rape and brutal murder of a Dalit woman in Khajuwala of Bikaner district of Rajasthan. A 20-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and murdered while on her way to a coaching class.

According to the relatives of the victim, the main accused Dinesh Bishnoi was harassing the woman for 10-15 days. The woman used to go to the coaching center in Khajuwala every morning for a computer course and the accused used to follow her.

Pictures of Bishnoi have gone viral on social media, where he can be seen presenting a rose to the recently transferred SHO during a farewell party. Along with this, the pictures of him sitting in the police car have also gone viral.

The victim informed her family about the accused, after which her sister-in-law also went with her, but the accused still did not stop harassing her.

The relatives of the woman told that police constables Manoj and Bhagirath were also seen along with the accused. He complained about this to the police officers, but no action was taken.

The relatives have demanded strict action against the accused.

On the report of the girl’s father, a case has been registered against Constable Manoj, Bhagirath along with Dinesh Bishnoi and another youth. Both the policemen have been suspended.

The villagers staged a sit-in at the police station and did not allow the postmortem to take place.

Later, in a late night development on Wednesday, it was agreed to constitute the SIT under the supervision of Inspector General of Police (IG) Om Prakash Paswan.

The state government said that the family would be given Rs 10 lakh on their behalf and Rs 15 lakh through public cooperation.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Rajendra Rathod said, the involvement of policemen is a blot on the government. By suspending the culprits, the government has directly washed its hands of its duties.

Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said the state’s image was being tarnished by frequent rape cases, but the government remained ignorant of such developments.
