Politician shot dead in Yemen
Sana (IANS). A group of unidentified assailants shot dead a prominent politician in Yemen’s southwestern province of Taiz. A local security officer gave this information.
The killing occurred on Wednesday in the port city of Mocha when masked gunmen armed with assault rifles ambushed al-Hassi, a prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Islah party, the official said on condition of anonymity.
The official said the assailants fired at al-Hassi’s vehicle, killing him on the spot.
The official said the assailants managed to escape after the shootout, adding that local security forces have launched an investigation into the killing.
In a statement, the Islah party confirmed al-Hassi’s death and said he was “one of the foremost leaders of the popular resistance on the Taiz front, who actively participated in military operations against the Houthi rebels in the past years”. “.
