‘Porky’ actor Tony Ganios passes away

New York: American actor Tony Ganios, best known for his role as fan-favorite Meat in the Bob Clark film ‘Porky’, died on February 18 following surgery at a New York hospital, as reported by Variety. Has gone. He was 64 years old on Tuesday evening.


Ganios’s fiancee revealed the news on Instagram along with a photo of the two holding hands. The post read, “I love you so much, my love. My heart, my soul and my best friend.”

Ganios was recognized for his roles in teen comedy and action films of the 1980s. He became notorious for his portrayal of tough, muscular characters, which often forced him to use character acting to play roles that demanded physical presence and toughness.


Ganios made his film debut in Kaufman’s ‘The Wanderers’ as Perry, a Bronx Italian-American street roughneck, based on the 1963 novel by Richard Price. Ganios would reunite with co-star Ken Wahl for the recurring role of a mob lawyer on Wahl’s 1987-90 crime series ‘Wiseguy’.

However, his most famous role was that of Meat in the 1981 comedy series ‘Porky’, about a gang of high school friends named Porky who seek vengeance on a shady nightclub owner after being insulted at his place. want.


Despite being panned by critics, the picture became the sixth highest-grossing film of 1982, along with two sequels. Other film credits include ‘Porky’s II: The Next Day’ (1983) and ‘Die Hard 2’ (1990). Ganios took semi-retirement from acting after starring in the film ‘Rising Sun’, making brief cameos in three films between 1991 and 1993.

Cult Faction questioned Ganios in 2015 about why he chose to return to acting for such a brief time, and he said, “It’s a weird thing. Even though I missed acting, I missed the entertainment industry or most of what’s in it.” Didn’t miss people.
