Pregnant woman dies, in-laws accused of poisoning her

Shakti: A pregnant woman died after consuming poison in the district. The woman’s family members have accused her in-laws of murdering her by poisoning her. Family members say that the woman’s in-laws used to harass her daily for dowry.

The matter is of City Kotwali police station area. According to the information, the woman was married on 16 May 2019. The couple also has a four-year-old child. The woman was currently three months pregnant. Chhoti Bai Patel, resident of village Sendripali of Raigarh district, was married to Umashankar Patel, resident of village Singhansara of Sakti district, on 16 May 2019. On Friday, Umashankar had gone to drop his wife to her maternal home, but she did not stay at the maternal home and came back.

Family members told that both of them reached their home on Friday night. At 9 pm, Chhoti called her brother and informed him about the dispute with her husband. After that, when the woman’s brother called again, Umashankar disconnected the call saying that there was no dispute.
