Premier League: Man City enters top four with 3-1 comeback win at Everton
Liverpool: Manchester City fought back strongly in the second half to earn a 3-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park here.
Goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva took Man City into the top four and they are now five points behind Liverpool with a match in hand.
City fell behind to Jack Harrison’s first-half strike at the break on their return to home action following last week’s impressive FIFA Club World Cup victory in Saudi Arabia.
Harrison almost had a second chance a few minutes later, but his shot was well saved by Ederson. Things went from bad to worse for City, as John Stones was replaced by Josko Guardiol.
City were level in the 53rd minute when Foden’s superb low shot from distance went into the bottom corner. Alvarez stepped up to convert the penalty in the 64th minute after Amadou Onana handled Nathan Ake’s shot in the box.
Silva then completed the scoring with four minutes remaining as he pounced on Pickford’s mistake and the ball went over him into the far corner.
Foden still had time to hit a post with a stunning angled effort in stoppage time, as City moved up to fourth and on 37 points.
Everton remain in 17th place with 16 points, one point above Luton Town.
