Punjab: 1,172 panchayats of 17 districts unanimously elected village head
Punjab: 1,172 panchayats in 17 districts of Punjab have unanimously elected their gram pradhans. Tarn Taran district tops the list, where 338 panchayats have been elected this way. The others are Rupnagar (139), SBS Nagar (136), Mohali (65), Fatehgarh Sahib (104).
Rupnagar deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain said, “139 panchayats of Rupnagar district have unanimously elected their panchayats. This is a welcome decision as it reflects a progressive and developmental outlook.” Amritsar and Jalandhar are the two and seven such commissionerates respectively, where the least number of panchayats took decisions unanimously.
