Punjab: Akali delegation will meet Takht Pramukh on January 8
Punjab: Shiromani Akali Dal leaders will meet Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh on January 8 to discuss the resignation of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Party spokesperson Dr Daljit Singh Cheema told The Tribune that they have sought time from the Jathedar to discuss the legal implications arising due to the Takht’s order. “Sukhbir ji has already resigned. He has already said that he will not lead the party. But as per the party constitution, the working committee has the right to accept the resignation. However, there are other issues like its reorganisation and membership drive, which can only be done as per the party constitution,” he said. Cheema said the SAD is registered as a secular party and as per legal opinion, it cannot take instructions from any religious head. “Akal Takht is a temporary seat. We have sought time to work as per the party constitution, so that the recognition is not de-recognised,” he said.
