Punjab: Bishnoi’s associate Jhinjha arrested from Abohar
Punjab: City police have arrested jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s close aide Javed Jhinjha from Abohar. Station House Officer Pramila Sidhu said Javed Jhinjha (25) alias Rativ, of Begawanli village in Fazilka, was arrested on Sitto Gunno Road here based on a tip-off. He has been booked under Section 128 of the BNS. Sources said Jhinjha had studied with Lawrence Bishnoi at a school in Abohar and later at a college in Chandigarh. Bishnoi had appointed him as the college unit president of Students’ Organisation of Punjab University (SOPU). According to police, eight cases were registered in Jhinjha’s name in Abohar, Sikar in Rajasthan and Chandigarh in the past few years. He was acquitted in all three cases registered in Abohar and one in Sikar. Trial in one case in Sikar and three in Chandigarh was pending.
The local police were informed that he was also wanted by the Gurugram police. He was produced before the Sub Divisional Magistrate’s court and later handed over to the Haryana Police. On May 18, a case was registered at Chandigarh’s Maloya police station against Javed Jhinjha and another associate of Bishnoi, Ravinder Singh, under sections 386, 387, 511 and 120-B of the IPC, sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act and section 24 of the Immigration Act. In May, a moneylender linked to Javed Jhinjha was arrested by the UT police crime branch for allegedly channelling money extorted by the gang. The accused has been identified as Jagtar Singh, 51, also known as Tony and is a resident of Sector 44 in Chandigarh. Last year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided Jhinjha’s ancestral house in Beganwali and conducted searches for four hours.
