Rajnandgaon. Natural colours and gulal are being made from palash flowers and spinach in the district. Before the Holi festival, women of Maa Bamleshwari group are engaged in this work. The group has received an order of about 3 quintals of colours.
On Sunday, women were given special training to make colour gulal in village Phaphamar. Women from village Sonwani Tola, Tipangarh, Tendutola and Masul participated in it. So far, more than 5000 women from 100 villages of three districts have joined this campaign. Hariyali Bahini Abhiyan chief Shiv Kumar Devangan said that gulal is being prepared from palash flowers and spinach. Along with this, powder of palash flowers is also being made. Padmashree Phoolbasan Yadav praised Hariyali Bahini and said that special attention should be paid to the quality of colour and gulal.
Till 15-20 years ago, people used to play Holi by boiling palash flowers in hot water. The trend of chemical colours has weakened this tradition. Now efforts are being made to revive this tradition again.
