Punjab: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi elected leader of society’s youth wing

Punjab: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, named in 85 cases including murder in Punjab, Mumbai and Canada, has been unanimously elected as the president of the youth wing of the All India Bishnoi Animal Protection Society. He was elected at a meeting of the Bishnoi Samaj in Abohar on Tuesday evening. According to the appointment certificate issued by Bishnoi Society chief Indrapal Bishnoi, Lawrence has been entrusted with the task of ensuring the protection of animals according to the principles of the Bishnoi society. Lawrence’s uncle Ramesh Bishnoi said in a video message that the Bishnoi society had specifically sought Lawrence’s appointment. The certificate states, “As the national chief, it will be his responsibility to carry forward the work and responsibility of protecting animals and the environment. He will protect the legacy of Amrita Devi and 363 Bishnois who sacrificed their lives to save Khejri trees in Rajasthan in the mid-18th century.” Lawrence is currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat. He is around 33 years old and hails from Dutrawali village in Abohar. He is the prime accused in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and the main suspect in the murder of Mumbai real estate agent and politician Baba Siddiqui. Canadian police have accused Lawrence Bishnoi of being involved in the conspiracy to murder Khalistan leader Hardeep Nijjar in Surrey last year.
