Punjab government will give a big gift to mothers on the birth of second daughter
Punjab| The Punjab government is constantly making efforts to uplift the standard of living of women. CM Mann-led Punjab government is running various schemes for the empowerment, safety and welfare of women in the state. Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, eligible beneficiary women (lactating mothers) would be given financial assistance in one installment of Rs.6000 after the birth of their second child.
Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 5000 is given to pregnant women and lactating mothers for the birth of their first child. He said that giving financial assistance of Rs 6000 after the birth of second girl child would improve the sex ratio at birth of girls, which would help in stopping the practice of sex selection before birth. This will improve the health of lactating mothers and help improve the nutritional well-being of the child.
The cabinet minister said that under this scheme, the benefit of Rs 6,000 will be directly transferred to the bank/post office accounts of the beneficiaries. To avail this, forms are filled by Anganwadi workers in all Anganwadi centers of Punjab. To get this benefit every beneficiary should have Aadhaar card and Aadhaar card should be linked to the bank account. The minister further informed that the beneficiaries can submit their applications by registering themselves on the online portal (https://pmmvy.nic.in/) sitting at home. Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur ordered the officers to implement the scheme in a transparent and efficient manner.
