Punjab initiates disciplinary action against police officers guilty of lapse in security of Prime Minister
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has accused former Director General of Police S. Chattopadhyay and two other police officers have been ordered to initiate disciplinary action. Chattopadhyay has retired. This action will also be taken against the then Deputy Inspector General of Police Inderbir Singh of Ferozepur Range and Harmandeep Singh Hans, the then Senior Superintendent of Police of Ferozepur.
All these will be asked to submit answers. On January 12 last year, the apex court had constituted a committee to probe the security lapses. The inquiry committee has questioned the role of many officers.
It is worth mentioning that agitators had come on the way of Prime Minister’s convoy and blocked the way. Due to which the Prime Minister’s convoy had to stop on a bridge for more than 45 minutes. The local police officers had not given any information to the Special Protection Group (SPG) responsible for the Prime Minister’s security about the agitators coming on the road.
