Punjab: Investigation into suicide case ‘simple’
Punjab: Nearly a month after a “miscreant” committed suicide after snatching the gun of a personal security officer of a sitting judge in Amritsar, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has termed the investigation a mere formality. A division bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Khetrapal also called for speedy completion of the probe.
The court also said it was of the considered opinion that the purpose of justice would be served if paramilitary forces (CRPF) were deployed for the personal security of the judge. “A perusal of the report regarding the status of investigation in the three crimes reveals that the investigation appears to be a mere formality as the investigating officers have not been able to trace the bullet projectile from the scene of crime despite lapse of a period of several days,” the bench stressed.
