Punjab: Islamia schools celebrate centenary of establishment

Punjab: Punjab Waqf Board-run Islamia Senior Secondary School in Chandigarh celebrated its 100th anniversary. The event gathered over 200 alumni who were felicitated for their contributions in various fields. The celebrations also included a vibrant cultural programme and an exhibition showcasing working models depicting advancements in science, technology and culture. Malerkotla MLA Dr Mohammad Jameel ur Rehman was the chief guest while Punjab Waqf Board chief executive Dr Mohammad Aslam presided over the event. Eminent educationist and administrator Professor Manzoor Ahmadgarh was the chief guest.

Notable personalities such as Hara Educational Trust chairman Amjad Ali, former sports minister Nusrat Ikram Khan Bagga and former state education minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghaffar also felicitated students for their achievements in education, health and sports. In their speeches, Rehman, Aslam and Amjad Ali reflected on the journey and growth of the school over the past century. Amjad Ali recalled the early days of the school and how students would collect goat skins during Eid to meet basic expenses such as teachers’ salaries. He said the institute is now educating more than 2,700 students in six branches. In his address, MLA Jamil ur Rehman praised the collaborative efforts of teachers, parents and students that transformed the educational landscape of the region. He highlighted the progress made from the time when quality educational institutions were rare to today, and today every child has access to well-equipped schools in the city. The centenary celebrations not only recalled the rich history of the school but also reaffirmed its commitment to quality education for future generations.
