Punjab: Makhu block receives award of Rs 1.5 crore under NITI Aayog program
Punjab: Makhu block, considered economically backward in the border district, has been awarded Rs 1.5 crore under the Aspiring Block Programme of Niti Aayog for its outstanding performance in the last quarter. Giving details, District Collector Deepshikha Sharma said that the honour is part of the initiative of Niti Aayog to monitor and reward blocks showing exemplary progress on key performance indicators (KPIs) through a challenge methodology. The award was announced through a letter sent by Niti Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam to the Punjab Chief Secretary. Makhu block, classified under Zone 2 – North India, demonstrated remarkable improvement in various development parameters, leading to this achievement.
The DC said, “The district administration will now prepare a comprehensive plan of action (PoA)/project proposal for the allocated funds in consultation with the Central Prabhari Officer and the proposal will be submitted to Niti Aayog for final approval by the empowered committee of secretaries.” The DC said, “This honour reflects our commitment towards inclusive growth and effective implementation of government schemes. The success of Makhu block reflects the commitment of our district officials and field staff in bringing about positive change at the grassroots level.” He said the award money will be used strategically to further improve the development indicators of the block. It is pertinent to mention here that a few days ago, the Municipal Council of Talwandi Bhai received the “Changemaker 2024” award for their initiative in solid waste management by the Centre for Science and Environment during an event held in New Delhi.
