Punjab: Panchayat elections on October 15

Punjab: Gram Panchayat elections to elect 13,237 sarpanches and 83,437 panches will be held in Punjab on October 15. Counting of votes will take place on the same day at the respective polling stations. Punjab State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhary on Wednesday said that with the announcement of the election schedule, the model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect. There are 1,33,97,922 registered voters in the total electorate, which includes 63,46,008 women and 192 others. Nominations can be filed from September 27 to October 4. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on October 5 and the last date for withdrawal of names is October 7.
