Punjab: Provide facilities to plot owners larger than 500 square yards

Punjab: With urban local body elections expected soon, the Punjab Colonisers and Property Dealers Association in a letter to CM Bhagwant Mann has flagged the recently issued instructions related to exemption from no objection certificate (NOC) for getting water and electricity connections in illegal colonies. The association pointed out that there is no logic in keeping plots larger than 500 sq yard out of NOC exemption. “There are plots of varying sizes in illegal colonies. It is not wise to provide civic amenities to those with smaller sized plots and leave out others,” said association chief Gurwinder Singh Lamba. He said that though the government has amended some sections of PAPRA, it has not extended the cut-off date in the Punjab Laws (Special Provisions for Regularisation of Unauthorised Colonies) Act, 2018 from March 18, 2018 to July 31, 2024.
