Punjab: Speaker orders to withdraw the letter issued to teachers
Punjab: Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has ordered the withdrawal of a letter issued by the Assembly Secretariat to teachers of a government school in Godara, seeking an explanation for not giving due respect to Jaiton MLA Amolak Singh. Sandhwan has reprimanded the secretariat staff for sending the letter regarding MLA Amolak Singh’s complaint of breach of privilege against the teachers. The letter was sent to the teachers as per the regular procedure, the official press release said.
He clarified that any matter related to breach of privilege should be brought to his notice before any action is taken. The Punjab Assembly Privileges Committee, which is overseen by Sandhwan, plays a key role in investigating and probing alleged breaches of privilege. The functions of the committee include protecting the freedom, rights and dignity of the House, its committees and members.
