Purushottampur Police failed to trace the sub-registrar’s complaint

Purushottampur: Uncertainty remains over an alleged land fraud case at the Purushottampur Sub-Registrar’s Office in Ganjam district, as the sub-registrar’s office has yet to address a written complaint submitted to the local police, nearly two weeks after it was sent.

The alleged fraud relates to two plots of land under Ranigaon Mouza in Purushottampur tehsil—plot numbers 3062 and 3063, under account number 390—originally owned by the late Dandapat Bouridora of Barabargaon, who died in December 2010. It is alleged that the land was illegally sold last June by creating a forged Aadhaar card in the deceased owner’s name.

According to sources, P. Mahendra Dora of Kolasingi village allegedly sold the land to a woman from Birjagannathpur village in Barakharida Panchayat, under Kabisuryanagar police limits, using the deceased’s name.

Following complaints and public outrage, newly appointed Sub-Registrar Prafulla Kumar Chhura stated that he verified the office records at the behest of the Additional District Magistrate (ADM).

Based on these findings, an official written complaint was submitted to the Purushottampur police via Office Letter No. 1356 on December 24th, seeking legal action under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code, 2023.

However, when contacted, Rajesh Kumar Nayak, IIC of the Purushottampur police station, stated that no complaint had yet been received from the Sub-Registrar’s office.

The contradictory claims have fueled suspicion and raised questions about the possibility of a cover-up. Public concern has increased because the Sub-Registrar’s office and the police station are less than a kilometer apart, making the delay difficult to explain.

The issue had previously sparked political backlash, with Congress workers protesting on December 19 and submitting a memorandum to ADM (Revenue) Debdutt Panda, demanding immediate action.

They warned of further agitation if no action was taken.
