Dimapur: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has released the PARAKH National Survey (PRS) Report 2024 for Nagaland, providing a comprehensive overview of student learning outcomes and school education practices in Grades 3, 6, and 9.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) stated on Wednesday that no district in the state featured among the top-performing districts nationally in any grade.
The survey, formerly known as the National Achievement Survey, was conducted by PARAKH NCERT under the Union Ministry of Education. It commenced on December 4, 2024, to assess competencies in language, mathematics, science, and social science, involving 22,220 students and over 3,335 teachers from 724 schools across Nagaland.
The survey analyzed performance across categories such as gender, location, school management type, and social group.
At the foundational level (Grade 3), the state’s performance was below the national average, particularly in mathematics. Phek and Mokokchung emerged as the top-performing districts in the state, while Kiphire and Tuensang were at the bottom. Kiphire was also among the 50 lowest-performing districts nationally.
At the preparatory level (Grade 6), students again performed below the national average, especially in mathematics, placing Nagaland among the 10 worst-performing states.
Officials ranked Mokokchung and Phek as the top districts, while Noklak, Mon, Shamator, Tuensang, and Kiphire were at the bottom. Noklak, Shamator, and Kiphire were also among the 50 lowest-performing districts nationally.
At the middle level (Grade 9), students performed above the national average in language but lagged behind in mathematics, science, and social science. Kohima, Mokokchung, and Dimapur were in the top-performing category, while Shamator, Kiphire, Noklak, and Mon were at the bottom. Shamator and Kiphire were again among the 50 worst-performing districts in the country.
The SCERT stated that the PRS Report 2024 is a crucial evidence base to guide district and state-level planning, ensuring data-driven reforms to improve the quality, equity, and relevance of school education in Nagaland.
