New Delhi: Days after meeting the families of farmers who committed suicide in Telangana, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday shared a video of his meeting, saying that if they had been given government assistance at the right time, they would have survived. But the ‘Dorala’ government of BRS and BJP is unable to meet the needs of the people of the southern state.
The Congress leader shared the video titled ‘Seeds of Suffering: Tackling farmer crisis with Congress’ guarantee’ on his YouTube channel. Rahul Gandhi said, “Mahatma Gandhi once said, the most important voice is that of the last person in the line. Kumari Chandraiah’s voice was like this. But the ‘Dorala’ BRS government failed them. He was a small farmer from Telangana who was struggling.” To make ends meet and are burdened with debt. He committed suicide leaving behind his loving family.”
The Congress leader said, “If he had been given government assistance at the right time, he would still be alive and among his loved ones. The ‘Dorala’ government of BRS and BJP is unable to meet the needs of the people of Telangana. Congress government brought changes? Absolutely, yes,” he said, adding that the Congress guarantee is a manifestation of the aspirations of crores of such voices who are standing last in the queue.
“Our guarantee is designed to provide a minimum floor to our people in Telangana. Kummari Tirupathamma told me that her family was struggling with the burden of debt. This will change very soon. Congress Prajala government will provide Rs 2,500 to Mahalaxmi women per month, free bus travel, gas cylinder for Rs 500. He said that under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, Congress will provide Rs 15,000 per year to farmers, Rs 12,000 per year to agricultural labourers.
The Congress leader said, “Our fight now is to ensure ‘justice’ for all our people. “Now is the time to bring back the era of people-centric governance across India.” In the video, Rahul Gandhi can be seen interacting with Kumari Chandraya, her son and discussing how they got trapped in the debt trap. He also visited their agricultural lands.
Voting for the 119-member Telangana Assembly seat is scheduled for November 30 and counting of votes will take place on December 3. The Congress has promised six guarantees in the state and is hoping to come to power in the southern state for the first time since its formation in 2014.
