Rayagada Another student of Ashram School dies of malaria

Rayagada: A 9-year-old student of a government residential ashram school in Rayagada district has died of malaria, marking the second death of a student at a residential school in the district within a week.
The deceased was identified as Jaysen Kandagiri, son of Johan Kandagiri of Badakasipadu village in the district. He was a fourth-grade student at SSD Government High School in Atada, Rayagada block. According to officials, Jaysen developed a fever on July 5 and was initially taken to the Jemadipentha Community Health Center by the hostel matron and school officials for treatment.
As his condition worsened, he was transferred to the Rayagada DHH on July 7 and later to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur, where he died on Tuesday morning during treatment.
Rayagada Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Prashant Kumar Mishra said the health department received information that a student had died of malaria.
He said that Dr. Ruma Mahapatra and Dr. Mamta Sahu have been instructed to conduct an investigation.
The team will inspect the school’s hostel and submit a report.
Mishra said, “Appropriate action will be taken as per the law after receiving the investigation’s findings.”
This death comes just a week after Chandu Ula, another fourth-grade student at Suri Higher Primary School in Kolnara block, also died of malaria on July 7.
