Republic Day: 5-layer security for Chennai airport

Tamil Nadu: Chennai Airport has been given a five-tier security cover ahead of Republic Day.
Republic Day is being celebrated across the country on January 26th. Security has been increased at the airport, railway station, bus station, and major temples, where large crowds gather, to mark the occasion.
5-tier security implemented: From midnight on Saturday (January 17th), Chennai Airport implemented a five-tier security cover across all areas, including the domestic and international terminals. Security forces are checking all vehicles entering the airport with the help of sniffer dogs.
Bomb experts are conducting thorough checks using metal detectors on the airport runway, multi-level car park, airport fuel depot, and parcel storage area.
Extra armed police are patrolling various parts of the airport. Along with them, the Central Industrial Security Force is also conducting thorough checks with sniffer dogs.
Extra surveillance cameras: Extra surveillance cameras have been installed at key locations throughout the airport and are monitored 24 hours a day. Passenger Advice: Airline passengers are prohibited from bringing liquid items such as pickles, oil bottles, halwa, and jam. Airport officials have advised domestic passengers to arrive one and a half hours in advance and international passengers three and a half hours in advance due to additional screening.
7-Layer Security: 7-Layer security will be in place on January 24, 25, and 26. It is worth noting that this security measure will remain in place until January 30.
