Research should reach the people: Governor Ravi

Tamil Nadu: On Sunday, Governor R.N. Ravi emphasized that scientific research is of no use if it remains confined to archives or documents; it must reach the people.
A felicitation ceremony was held at the Governor’s House for Dr. K. Ramasamy, former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, and his colleagues for successfully organizing the South India Organic Farming Summit in Coimbatore last November in the presence of Prime Minister Modi, and for Dr. Ramasamy recently receiving the Padma Shri award.
Speaking as the chief guest, Governor R.N. Ravi said: Archaeological studies reveal that Tamil Nadu had a very high food production capacity in the 18th century. Now, even half of that production is not available.
After a period of poverty, we were able to overcome the scarcity thanks to our agricultural scientists. But now, excessive use of chemical fertilizers has posed a major challenge to our land and health. People like Nammalvar recognized the inherent danger in this.
When I suggested to the Prime Minister that an organic farming conference be held in Coimbatore, he was very happy to attend. As a result, organic farming has gained momentum.
The discoveries of scientists must reach the people. Technology and innovations must be adapted to meet the needs of society. Dr. K. Ramasamy has done just that, he said.
The Governor felicitated 18 individuals, including former Chief Secretary Shanmugam, members of the South India Organic Farming Summit Committee-2025, A.P. Karuppaiah, President of the Federation of Tamil Nadu Agricultural Training Institutions, P.R. Pandian, Chairman of the Coordination Committee of Tamil Nadu All Farmers Organizations, Athikadavu Subramaniam, President of Kalanjiyam Farmers Association, G. Ajithan, Director of Tamil Nadu Banana Producers Association, and Yoganathan, President of Green Peak Foundation.
