Rural postal worker arrested, had embezzled Rs 72 lakh
Dhamtari: Rural postal worker has been arrested. Parmeshwar Kumar Sahu, Office Sub Divisional Inspector Post Office Dhamtari Division filed a report that during his posting, Kewal Ram Dhruv, former rural postal worker, branch postmaster Birjhuli (Magarlod), had issued fake passbooks in the name of beneficiaries Kunti Bai, 2. Aishwarya Kumar, 3. Yashoda, 4. Chanda Bai, 5. Kala Bai, 06. Shanti Bai and by tampering with the transactions in the passbooks of beneficiaries 01. Yeshwa Kumar Dhruv, 02. Rekha Bai, 03. Santoshi Bai, and Ram Bai, by preparing forged passbooks for the purpose of cheating, and by embezzling a total amount of Rs 729800/-, causing financial loss to the Indian Postal Department, a crime was registered and investigation was taken on the report.
During investigation, statement of applicant and beneficiaries and appointment order of accused, investigation report, letter regarding authorization for investigation, fake passbooks of beneficiaries and irregularities in transactions, account register of post office Birjhuli, SB General, TD General and other registers were seized.
On interrogation, accused Kewal Ram Dhruv confessed to the crime of tearing and destroying the front pages of old passbooks lying closed in post office Birjhuli and issuing fake passbooks to the victim beneficiaries and embezzling the amount deposited by the beneficiaries. Crime under section 409,420,467,468 IPC was registered against accused Kewal Ram Dhruv in police station Magarlod and the accused was duly arrested and sent to district jail on judicial remand.
