SC bans NCERT chapter on judicial corruption, issues notice

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today gave key orders in the case of a controversial lesson on the judiciary in the NCERT Class 8 Social Science book. The Supreme Court today ordered a ban on the book. The Supreme Court also said in its order that copies of the book, which contains the topic of corruption in the judiciary, should be seized. The bench comprising CJI Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi gave orders in this case. The court said that there was a very deep conspiracy.

The court said that action should be taken against those responsible for publishing the NCERT Class 8 Social Science book. We want a very thorough investigation into this matter, we will identify those responsible for this, we will decide who they are, we will examine this case closely, there is no question of closing this case, said CJI Suryakant. The Supreme Court said that it will issue notices to the Education Department as well as NCERT Director Dr. Dinesh Prasad Saklam in a contempt of court case.

The court said it will ask the education department to explain why action should not be taken against those who wrote the controversial textbook on the judiciary. The court said in its order that both hard and digital copies of the controversial book be removed from the market. The three-judge bench rejected the apology issued by NCERT.
