SC Terms 16 Year Delay In Delhi Acid Attack Case Trial As National Shame

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has expressed shock over acid attack cases. The Supreme Court today directed all High Courts to disclose the details of pending acid attack cases across the country. It has said that the information should be provided within four weeks. The Supreme Court expressed this view while hearing an acid attack case pending in a Rohini court in Delhi. The bench said that it is shameful that the trial in the acid attack case has been going on for 16 years. The bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymala Bagchi gave these orders. The Supreme Court expressed its shock over the petition filed by acid attack victim Shaheen Malik.
The Supreme Court, responding to the Shaheen Malik case, said that the case has been pending in the Rohini court since 2009, which is a mockery of the judicial system. It is a matter of great shame, and if a case is pending in the national capital for so long, then who will resolve it, this is truly a shame for the country, the Supreme Court said. The Supreme Court said that the Center should consider Malik’s request to recognize acid attack victims as disabled to avail government schemes. However, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the matter will be considered seriously. The CJI asked the Center to amend the law to include acid attack victims in the category of disabled.
