Kerala: A fine of Rs 20 lakh imposed for putting up PM Modi’s flex banners

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a surprising move, the Thiruvananthapuram corporation, headed by a BJP Mayor, fined the city BJP committee for erecting flex boards, flags and banners in public places without permission in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the capital. The city district committee has been fined Rs 20 lakh for the incident. The corporation decided to impose a fine after its request to remove the boards and banners was ignored.

On Wednesday and Thursday, boards and banners with pictures of the Prime Minister and BJP leaders appeared in the city. There was a lot of criticism against the installation of flex boards on the sidewalks and dividers, blocking the way. Subsequently, the BJP-led corporation wrote a letter to the city district president, demanding the removal of boards and banners within two hours. The boards installed across the sidewalk were removed, but others remained untouched. Following this, the corporation secretary issued a fine notice.
