Bengaluru: The building of a nursery school run by the Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP) in Bengaluru collapsed before classes could begin on Monday. But during this time a major tragedy was averted. Located on Cooks Road near Shivajinagar area, 90 children study in this English medium nursery school.
Every day 70-80 nursery children come to school and if the building had collapsed during school hours, it could have been a major accident. Police said that officials have started removing debris with JCB machines.
Local people cornered the officials for running a nursery school in a dilapidated building and said that it posed a serious threat to the children. Congress MLA from Shivajinagar Rizwan Arshad, reacting to the incident, said that the authorities have already identified old buildings in the constituency. “Three school buildings will be constructed by combining the one that collapsed. A tender has already been issued, and a new building will be built soon.”
