Secretary RDD advocates enhanced convergence for wider impact in development of Udhampur
In a concerted effort to assess and accelerate rural development initiatives, Secretary, Rural Development Department (RDD) and Panchayati Raj, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today took an extensive tour of Udhampur to accelerate rural development initiatives in the district. There is a sign of a strong effort in the direction.
Dr. Shahid stressed the critical need for deeper convergence with various departments to enhance the impact of developmental efforts.
Secretary RDD discussed several important aspects related to the development works, major schemes and centrally sponsored initiatives earmarked for the financial year 2023-24 in Udhampur.
Chairing a meeting, he examined various initiatives and projects aimed at strengthening rural infrastructure and nurturing livelihood opportunities through regional convergence.
The agenda of the meeting included several issues, including progress under flagship schemes like MNREGA, progress in Local Body (LB) projects, prompt payment of wages, careful monitoring of delays, pace of Unnati project, agricultural expenditure, status updates. Ongoing projects, and strategies for social audit.
During the deliberations, the Block Development Officers (BDOs) were clearly instructed to organize the resources with precision, thereby ensuring seamless implementation of the schemes and no eligible beneficiary is overlooked.
The Secretary underlined the need for transparency, accountability and unwavering pursuit of set goals in all developmental efforts.
Dr. Shahid ordered BDO to use innovative methods to expedite project execution without compromising on quality or adhering to deadlines.
Reaffirming the vital role of officials in effective scheme implementation for public welfare, he stressed the imperative to achieve 100% Aadhaar seeding of beneficiaries.
The Secretary also stressed the vital importance of livelihood generation and sustainable operation and maintenance of assets and urged concerted efforts in these areas.
Further, he stressed the urgency of further linkage in door-to-door waste collection and underlined the need to accelerate the construction of Panchayat houses.
During the deliberations, Block Development Officers (BDOs) received clear instructions to effectively mobilize resources for implementation of the schemes, while ensuring comprehensive coverage of all eligible beneficiaries.
A detailed proposal for setting up community sanitation complexes along the National Highway was also discussed, with Dr. Shahid highlighting the potential synergy between MNREGA and other developmental programmes.

Earlier, a detailed presentation was given by Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, highlighting the performance of the district on key performance indicators of various centrally sponsored schemes under the Rural Development Department.
