Seven coaches of the train derailed, one dead

Dhaka. Seven coaches of a train derailed in Ghazipur, a suburb of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, on Wednesday, killing one person. This incident happened at around 4 in the morning. local time today. Hanif Ali, station manager of the local Joydabpur railway station, told reporters that around eight people were injured in the derailment.

He said: Seven coaches including the locomotive derailed and one person died on the spot. The derailment disrupted rail connectivity between the capital Dhaka and other parts of the country. According to information received, the train derailed after miscreants destroyed a portion of the railway track in Ghazipur on suspicion of provoking opposition parties.

The protests led to vandalism and arson at various places. Deadly clashes between police and workers have been occurring almost daily in Dhaka and other parts of the country since late October. The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies launched a 36-hour nationwide campaign on roads, railways and waterways on Tuesday morning after the Election Commission announced the date of the 12th general election and called for a blockade.
