Seven more Punjabi women brought to India from Oman
Chandigarh (IANS) | Seven women and a boy from Punjab returned to their families on Friday at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. With this, the total number of women evacuated from Oman in two weeks under Mission Hope, spearheaded by Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, Vikram Sahni, has gone up to 24.
Sahni said that Mission Hope, launched last month, is achieving great success. He is determined to bring back every Punjabi girl stuck in Oman.
“Our teams are working on a war footing and have visited Oman twice to liaise with all the stakeholders to expedite the rescue operation at the earliest,” he said.
Sahni said they have hired a reputed immigration law firm in Oman, which is fighting a legal battle to expedite the process of repatriating these girls.
“Our lawyers are connecting with the sponsors and agents of these women and paying fees to get all the necessary documents for these girls to go back home,” he said.
Sahni told that the women who came on Saturday are residents of Jalandhar, Shahkot, Phillaur, Jagraon, Patti, Tarn Taran, Nakodar and Bathinda.
They were lured by the false allure of employment of unscrupulous agents and so-called manpower consultants.
A boy from Jalandhar, who was working as a sevadar in a local Gurdwara in Muscat, was saved by paying an overstay penalty.
Sahni, the international president of the Punjabi organization, is bearing the entire cost of the fines that the sponsors are demanding for unfair contracts and cancellation of their air tickets etc. of these women.
Sahni also runs a community kitchen at a shelter home in Muscat where women from different parts of India are seeking refuge in Muscat.
Sahni said that all the seven rescued women would go to their nearest police stations and file an FIR against their respective agents who cheated them and sent them to Oman on false promises.
