Several suburban trains have been cancelled from May 17 to 31 due to maintenance work on the Chennai-Arakkonam section.

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Railway Division has issued an important information for passengers, stating that due to ongoing maintenance work on the Chennai Central–Arakkonam section, the operation of some suburban electric trains has been completely cancelled from May 17th to May 31st. This decision was taken in view of the track and technical maintenance work scheduled to be carried out at the Arakkonam Workshop on May 17th and 18th. The railway administration stated that this work is being carried out to ensure passenger safety and to ensure safer and smoother railway operations.

According to the railway department, a total of five suburban electric trains have been affected due to the maintenance work. These primarily include morning services running between Arakkonam and Thiruthani. From May 17th to May 31st, IMU and MEMU trains running from Arakkonam to Thiruthani at 4:00 AM, 5:00 AM, and 6:25 AM will be completely cancelled. These trains are regularly used by a large number of passengers, especially those traveling for work in the morning.

Similarly, some night services between Tirutani and Arakkonam will also be affected during this period. According to the Railways, the IMU trains running from Tirutani to Arakkonam at 9:15 pm and 11:00 pm have also been completely cancelled from May 17 to 31. While these services may cause temporary inconvenience to daily commuters, the Railways stated that this step is necessary to ensure better and safer services in the long run.

Railway officials stated that the track and technical maintenance work being carried out at the Arakkonam Workshop is crucial for the robustness of the railway network. During this period, track inspections, repairs, and technical improvements will be carried out, ensuring safer and more punctual train operations in the future. The department has urged passengers to take this temporary change into account when planning their travels and to monitor official railway notifications.

The Chennai Railway Division has also clarified that normal services will be restored after the maintenance work is completed. Information regarding alternative arrangements or the operation of other trains on affected routes is currently being released as needed. The Railways has appealed to passengers for cooperation, stating that this temporary change is a necessary step for safe train operations.

In total, the maintenance work on the Chennai-Arakkonam section, scheduled from May 17th to 31st, has directly impacted five major suburban trains, disrupting the daily travel of thousands of passengers.
