Shakib Al Hasan out of World Cup
New Delhi: Bangladesh captain Shakibul Hasan was ruled out of the remaining matches of the 2023 World Cup on Tuesday with a left index finger injury. Shakib was injured in Bangladesh’s final match against Sri Lanka on Monday.
A post-match X-ray confirmed the fracture and Bangladesh were forced to withdraw from the tournament final against Australia in Pune.
National team physiotherapist Baijal Islam Khan explained the injury: “Shakib suffered a cut on his left index finger early in the innings but he continued batting with tape and painkillers.”
“After the match, I got an X-ray done in Delhi and it was confirmed that I had a fracture in my left PIP joint. Recovery is expected to take three to four weeks. I am scheduled to leave for Bangladesh today to begin rehabilitation.”
Shakib scored 82 runs in 65 balls with the help of 12 fours and 2 sixes and recorded figures of 2/57 with the ball to help his team win by three wickets against Sri Lanka. His excellent performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
