Sharpshooter of notorious Gogi gang arrested
New Delhi. The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested the main sharpshooter of the Gogi gang involved in the firing at the office of a property dealer for extortion of Rs 1 crore in the national capital. Police gave this information on Saturday. The accused was identified as Ankit alias Vishal alias Yamraj (23), resident of Karala, Delhi. Police said that there have been several incidents of extortion, murder and attempt to murder in the Delhi area and Yogesh Tunda-Dinesh Karala, who handle the Gogi gang, have created havoc and unrest among the general public. A senior police officer said, “A police team was tasked to bust the nexus operating in the area. The team worked continuously day and night and through manual and technical surveillance managed to collect valuable information about the associates of dreaded criminals who were operating from behind the bars.”
On February 15, a property dealer of King & Company, based in Rohini Sector-5, was fired upon for extortion as he refused to pay extortion amount of Rs 1 crore to Dinesh Karal-Gogi gang. During investigation, it was revealed that Ankit was involved in the above incident and raids were conducted at the suspected hideouts of the accused person in the area of Delhi-NCR, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Alok Kumar said, “On some occasions he narrowly escaped the clutches of the police. The criminal was using all possible means to protect himself and it was very difficult to keep a constant eye on his activities as he was repeatedly changing his mobile number and whereabouts to avoid his arrest. However, the team did not lose patience and continued to chase him.”
On Wednesday, Ankit was caught near Japanese Park in Rohini when he had reached there to discuss the next scandal with his associates as the property dealer refused to pay the extortion amount. “During his cursory search, a loaded pistol and one live cartridge was recovered from him,” the DCP said. During interrogation, it was revealed that Ankit was arrested for the first time in 2019 under the section of the Arms Act and was sentenced to three months in jail. The DCP said, “In 2019 he went to jail again in a POCSO case. After coming out on bail, he started committing crimes with more desperation and became the main sharpshooter of the Gogi gang.” Police said that Ankit was in touch with the main leaders of the gang from behind the bars. Earlier in January, in a series of raids across several states, the Delhi Police Crime Branch had arrested eight members, while two teenagers of the Gogi gang were held, who were running an extortion racket in the national capital and its outskirts. .
