SI recruitment, Chhattisgarh High Court gave relief to pregnant women
Raipur. The Chhattisgarh High Court has given relief to pregnant women who wish to become police constables. The court gave this verdict while hearing a petition filed by a woman candidate. The State Home Department and others have been directed to keep one post in the sub-inspector recruitment category vacant till the next date of hearing. The petitioner Roshni Kerketta had requested for extension of the period of physical test due to her pregnancy.
Justice P Sam Koshy’s bench has ordered the defendants to file their reply within two weeks. The court has listed the matter for further hearing during the week commencing August 21. Roshni Kerketta, through her advocate Shalvik Tiwari, argued that when the recruitment process was going on, she got married and later became pregnant. Currently, she is six months pregnant, and her expected delivery date is around November 2023. Looking at her condition, Roshni Kerketta made a formal request to the authorities to postpone the physical test to a later date. But he did not get a positive response.
After this, he approached the court seeking postponement of the physical standard test to be held on July 24, 2023 for six months. The counsel for the petitioner cited two notable legal precedents in the court. In which the court had given permission to postpone the physical standard test / physical efficiency test in view of the conditions of the petitioners.
During the last hearing, the Deputy Advocate General had requested the court to fix the hearing of the case for next week. This extra time would enable him to obtain appropriate instructions from higher authorities in the department, thereby ensuring a well informed and comprehensive response to the concerns raised by the petitioner.
